    Foundation Day

A royal order was issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, to make February 22nd the founding day, which is the day that symbolizes the historical, civilizational and cultural depth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when Imam Muhammad bin Saud founded the first Saudi state in 1139 AH / 1727 AD.

    What is Foundation Day?

It is a national occasion to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Saudi state, which was founded by Imam Muhammad bin Saud three centuries ago. He established a political entity that achieved unity, stability and prosperity, and on this day Diriyah became the capital of the first Saudi state.

    Why was Founding Day approved?

Founding Day is a commemoration of the three-century extension of the Saudi state, a highlight of its historical and cultural depth, a celebration of the diverse cultural heritage, and a tribute to those who contributed to serving the nation, including imams, kings, and citizens.

    Why February 22?

Imam Muhammad bin Saud assumed power in Diriyah in the second half of the year 1139 AH, and Jumada al-Thani 30, 1139 AH, corresponding to February 22, 1727 AD, was set as the date for the founding of the first Saudi state.

What is the difference between Foundation Day and National Day?

The Founding Day is February 22, 1727 AD, the day of the founding of the first Saudi state (the founder, Imam Muhammad bin Saud). As for the National Day, September 23, 1932 AD, it is the day of the announcement of the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at the hands of the unifier King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Faisal Al Saud - may God have mercy on him.
